This Town Annual Report from 1956 notes that 800 trees where planted that year, including 18 memorial trees lost to a hurricane and library construction. Click for larger image.
The Annual Report from 1954 notes that the town on August 31 was struck by the worst hurricane in town history, and 11 days later a second hurricane hit! Over 500 tree where lost. This explains the massive tree planting in 1956.
